Why It’s Not Too Early to Think About Christmas

It’s October, which means Christmas is still a couple of months away. But if you love Christmas, you’ve probably already started thinking about it. Maybe you’ve spotted a decoration you love, saved a holiday recipe, or started making a mental list of gifts. And you know what? It’s not too early to think about Christmas. In fact, October can be a great time to start getting ready for the best day of the year.

Start Thinking About Christmas

You don’t have to put up your Christmas tree or start playing Christmas music all day. Just start thinking about what you want the holiday season to look like this year. A little planning now can make December feel much less rushed.

This is a good time to think about things like:

  • Who you need to buy gifts for
  • Your budget
  • Recipes you want to try
  • Christmas cards you need to send
  • Decorations you want to use
  • Holiday movies you want to watch
  • Family traditions
  • Things you want to make or bake
  • Holiday events you want to attend

You don’t have to do everything at once. Even making a simple list can help you feel more organized when December arrives.

Make Time for the Fun

One of my favorite things about thinking about December 25 early is that there is still plenty of time to enjoy it. Instead of December becoming one long list of things to get done, you can spread things out and actually enjoy the weeks leading up to the big day.

Buy a gift here and there. Try a new cookie recipe. Make a list of your favorite Christmas movies. Look through your decorations and think about how you want to decorate this year. Maybe there’s an old tradition you’d like to bring back.

These little things can make the holiday season feel special instead of stressful.

Don’t Rush Christmas

Starting early doesn’t mean you have to rush through the seasons. Enjoy October and Halloween. Enjoy Thanksgiving when it arrives. You can still look forward to the holiday while enjoying everything that comes before it.

So if you’ve already started thinking about Christmas, don’t feel guilty about it. Make your list, save that recipe, or start thinking about your decorations. Why is it not too early to think about Christmas? Because sometimes the anticipation is part of the joy.
